Cook the Book
Book clubs have always been a favorite get-together for friends. Put a new spin on it by hosting a Cook the Book party. Choose a book that you like and ask your guests to read it before the party.
I chose Eat, Pray, Love for my party because I think it is a beautifully written and heartfelt memoir by author Elizabeth Gilbert. She recounts her travels to Italy, India, and Bali, which gave me three cuisines to choose from. I decided to concentrate on Italy because I love Italian food. Whether you choose Eat, Pray, Love or another book, develop your menu around the setting of the book. It is simple and fun to do!
Before your party, go online and download questions for your book club. You can find book club questions for almost all top-selling books.
Photocopy the cover of Eat, Pray, Love, reducing it and orienting it so the image covers half the page. Fold the page in half so it opens like a card. Write your invitation inside the “card” and mail it to your invitees.
As guests arrive, give them a glass of wine and appetizers of Fried Mozzarella, Prosciutto-Wrapped Melon, and Prosciutto-Wrapped Shrimp. Find a comfortable sitting area and discuss the book while sipping your sangria and enjoying the appetizers. Follow your discussion with a wonderful Italian Dinner.
